ROAD LIGHTING INCREASES SAFETY. INSUFFICIENT BRIGHTNESS DECREASES PERFORMANCE AND INCREASES ERRORS
VERKEHRSBELEUCHTUNG ERHOEHT SICHERHEIT. UNZUREICHENDE HELLIGKEIT VERRINGERT DIE LEISTUNG UND VERGROESSERT DIE FEHLERQUOTE
Delegates at a conference of the Haus der Technik and the Technical Lighting Association discussed whether the saving of energy by reducing lighting was sensible. It was shown that only with street lighting can the number of accidents be significantly reduced. The costs of damage are as a rule up to 50 percent higher than the amounts saved by the decreased lighting. Ill-conceived savings on lighting at work places is also costly; they result in a decrease in efficiency, greater fatigue and more accidents as a result of this. In lighting engineering, better lighting is characterised by greater efficiency. (TRRL)
