REINFORCED EARTHWORK

Supporting structures of "reinforced earth" are composite constructions consisting of fill earth, reinforcement strips and exterior walls. They are batch-produced. Owing to their flexibility, "reinforced earth" structures allow construction costs to be reduced, especially where conventional massive structures would call for special foundation work because of bad ground conditions. Static calculations are carried out in accordance with the usual procedures. The provisional rules are a valuable aid to building contractors, construction supervisors and clients considering the use of the "reinforced earth" method.
