Union Tank Car's new research facility can condense a car's life span into a brief test period to assess its dependability and basic design. The Rail Car Load Simulator, of Simuloader, was designed by UTC as part of its research facility at Conroe, Tx. Hydraulic actuators reproduce at high speed the damaging events that occur in normal over-the-road service. Another new facility is a squeeze frame for applying comprehensive load tests to carbodies.
