RUNNING ELECTRIC TRACTION NETWORKS
EXPLOITATION DES RESEAUX ELECTRIQUES DE TRACTION
Data are given on powers and consumptions in electric traction networks in France and the phenomenon of load diversity is mentioned. Running these networks differs from running distribution networks because it requires permanent monitoring of supply, which is performed nearly everywhere by substation supervisory control rooms that perform remote control of manipulations of substation and track apparatus. This running technique, which is 40 years old, has been modernized and requires a very high standard of reliability. Other running features are made clear and the future evolution of electric traction is outlined.
