THE USE OF VIDEO RECORDING IN TRAFFIC EDUCATION IN PRIMARY SCHOOLS
A description is given of the basic aims of a research project, sponsored by TRRL and commencing in September 1978, to investigate the potential contribution of video recording to the teaching of road safety. Information received on its use by road safety officers in England and Wales is presented, indicating in particular its usefulness for showing danger spots and children's behaviour on public highways. Reference is made to the impact of video recordings of local scenes and of themselves, on young children. Among the drawbacks of video recording are the time required for its use and its cost. Details are given of monitoring an "operation stay-safe" campaign in Wolverhampton concurrent with the above survey. The effect of indoor road safety tuition with use of video recordings is discussed. (TRRL)
