APPLICATION OF NETS TO INTERMODAL MOVES AIRED AT DNA MEETING

The article briefly discusses the evolution and function of the National Equipment Transaction Settlement (NETS), a new service of the Equipment Interchange Association. NETS is a nationally available computer/communications system that simplifies and reduces the clerical effort and paperwork costs generated by interchange. Some of the services provided by the NETS system include: editing and processing interchange transactions, calculating amounts due, billing and collection of charges, maintaining account balances, and providing detailed accounting and management reports. Access to NETS is via Telex, TWX, data transmission on mail, depending on the interchange activity and the configuration of a carrier's computer/communications system. There is a one time fee of $100 to cover the cost of user manuals, training, and loading the computer files with information that describes a carrier's equipment inventory. The only other charge is a processing fee for each completed interchange transaction.
