A CATAMARAN STERN HULL DESIGN FOR RO/RO VESSELS FROM SANOYASU

Sanoyasu's design programme was to create a hull form which would fulfill the constraints of maximum loading capacity, maximum propulsive efficiency, and the best seakeeping quality. From bow to midships the catamaran-stern hull follows the shape of the more conventional ship. Aft of the midship section the hull form begins to adopt the catamaran shape by gradually rising in the centre, and forming pontoons to port and starboard which carry the diesel engine-rooms driving propellers aft of each pontoon. A diagram of the engine room layout is provided. A sharp increase in loading capacity and reduced residual resistance are claims made by Sanoyasu for its advanced catamaran-stern hull concept following an extensive design and development programme for passenger/car ferries and ro-ro cargo ships. Adaptation for bulk carriers and tankers also.
