GUSSASPHALT ON FOOTWAYS AND CYCLE PATHS
GUSSASPHALT AUF RAD- UND GEHWEGEN
Good experience with gussasphalt (Ga) as a high quality paving for traffic surfaces can be utilised for sidewalks, footpaths, pedestrian precincts as well as for cycle paths. The justifiable reasons are: the ease of laying (for small areas by hand, for larger areas by machine) in thicknesses of about 2,5 cm, generally on a bituminous base, laying in one pass without compaction by roller, freedom from joints, optimum adaptability to variations in level and irregular areas and to movements in the subsoil, various possibilities of varying the surface texture (sandpaper roughness to coarse texture from rolled-in grit), rapid run-off of surface water due to high density, high durability without significant maintenance requirements, high salt resistance (no damage in the winter), breaking-up and reinstatement of poured asphalt is possible without employing expensive plant. In view of escalating wage costs the elimination of maintenance work will play a decisive role in promoting the widespread use of qussasphalt. (TRRL)
