COMPUTER SYSTEM AIDS DISPATCHERS
A computer-aided dispatching system which handles routine train operations without manual intervention, but is programmed to alert a dispatcher when a difficult situation arises, is operating on German Federal Railway at Saarbrucken. The ITT/SEL Train Operation Management System (TOMS) consists of a computer complex, control room, telemetry system, and interfaces with vital field functions. The system requirements for performing its functions include the operation plan, train tracking system, conflict detection/resolution, train route control, communications with adjacent territories, and control of switching operations.
