DETERMINATION OF THE TENSILE STRENGTH OF CONCRETE UNDER IMPACT LOADING

BEPALING VAN DE STREKSTERKTE VAN BETON ONDER STOOTBELASTING

An apparatus for the determination of the tensile strength of concrete under impact load with centric tension is developed. The results of tests with this apparatus are discussed. Conclusions are drawn with respect to the interrelation of the rate of loading, the (static or impact) tensile strength, the water cement ratio and the moisture content of concrete. The kind and the quality of the cement were found to have no influence upon the relation between the rate of loading and the tensile strength of concrete. Repeated impact loading led to similar results for all kinds of concrete: increase of the number of blows causes decrease in strength. (TRRL)
