Rural Transport, Volume 2
An estimated one billion people in the world's rural areas do not have access to reliable transportation. Isolation caused by poor accessibility is a major obstacle to economic progress in developing countries. Access to roads is often the most important determining factor in agricultural productivity, but farmers delivering their products to markets are faced with deficient roads and the most basic transportation. This second volume of the IRF Bulletin on rural transportation presents contributions from leading researchers and practitioners, with sections on the socioeconomic benefits of rural transportation projects, road construction and management, road safety, and motorcycle transportation.
