BLACK CARR RAILWAY UNDERPASS - DONCASTER
This paper describes the construction of a corrugated steel underpass, carrying a motorway link road over a single track railway line at Black Carr Junction, South Yorkshire. The factors affecting the choice of this type of structure are given, together with the reasons which led to the adoption of the novel method of construction by lifting into position. The paper continues by outlining relevant aspects of the construction and concludes by giving the advantages obtained compared with a conventional type of bridging solution.
