THE RESTRAINT SYSTEM FOR PASSENGER PROTECTION IN PRODUCTION TESTING OF VEHICLES
DAS RUECKHALTESYSTEM ZUM INSASSENSCHUTZ IN DER FAHRZEUGREIHENPRUEFUNG
The latest accident research demonstrates that the most effective method for reducing the risk of injury in traffic accidents is an efficient occupant restraint system comprising safety belt, seat and head restraint. The authors investigate the degree to which defects in this system can occur, due to wear, improper handling and accidental damage, and show that, in view of the effects of such defects on safety and of the frequency of their occurrence, there is a scarcity of conclusive information - even in spite of the relative ease with which tests may be carried out. This deficiency needs to be made good through a programme of testing. (TRRL)
