Development and Implementation of the Next Generation Concrete Surface: 2016 Report-Living Document

The Next Generation Concrete Surface (NGCS), is a new texture for pavement surfaces developed over the last three decades by the American Concrete Pavement Association (ACPA) with Purdue University and the International Grooving and Grinding Association (IGGA). It was designed as a texture with consistent and predictable properties, and is the quietest texture for non-porous concrete pavements, applicable on new and also existing pavements. It effectively lowers tire/pavement noise. An NGCS at its time of construction has a noise level of 99 dBA, with a range up to 102 dBA. NGCS has been used in the U.S. for nine years and has been applied in fourteen states.
