SUMMARY OF STUDIES OF THE EFFECTIVENESS OF STUDS AND NON-SKID SYSTEMS

SYNTHESE DES ETUDES SUR L'EFFICACITE DES CRAMPONS ET SYSTEMES ANTIDERAPANTS

Because conventional studs proved harmful to pavements, it became necessary to develop new non-skid systems for winter traffic. Tests were conducted on real vehicles to compare the performance of various devices and define their best performance and utilization. Studies of wear were also carried out. Results were used to establish the new regulations governing the use of non-skid systems for winter traffic. (TRRL)
