INFLUENCES ON THE MECHANICAL RUNNING NOISE OF OTTO MOTORS AND EXHAUST GAS EMISSION

EINFLUESSE AUF DIE MECHANISCHE LAUFUNRUHE VON OTTOMOTOREN UND ABGASEMISSIONEN

Where the fuel mixture becomes increasingly leaner, the noise of the motor increases and low frequency rotational speed/rotational moment oscillations are more pronounced. The results of various studies in which the influence of constructional details of the motor, e.g. the main parameters, ignition timing, exhaust back pressure, various mix patterns, on the running speed was analysed, are reproduced in illustrations. This shows that it is possible the operate Otto motors at perceptibly higher speeds of rotation if (a) the mixture formation unit and the exhaust pipe shape similar fill quantities and similar air quantities can be obtained in all cylinders of if (b) a suitable turbulence producing unit may be used before each cylinder.
