DESIGN OF THE DRIVER'S WORKING POSITION
GESTALTUNG DES FAHRER-AREITSPLATZES 21.6
The author sets out methods, minimum requirements and completed examples of the optimization of the driver's working position from the human viewpoint, i.e. With the objective of increasing the well-being of the operative. It is important so to interrelate all aspects of the ergonomic design of the driver's cabin that the occupant remains subject only to that degree of stress which is necessary to maintain mental and physical equilibrium, which ensures adequate support of the various parts of the body by the musculature and which avoids premature fatigue due to total relaxation. By means of a balanced relation between total relaxation and tension the risk of accidents will be reduced and the transport of goods and passengers expedited, thus also providing an economic incentive. Examples are given of how driver accommodation, visibility, heating and ventilation, noise control, recognizability of symbols, control panel and warning lights all contribute to the vehicle designer's efforts to provide optimal driving conditions.
