Global Progress Toward Soot-Free Diesel Vehicles in 2018
This paper reports on the current status of diesel-fueled highway transportation around the world, including data on the status of particle-free emissions standards, vehicle technology, and fuel quality in 200 countries. Projected emissions impacts of 4 policy scenarios for worldwide diesel road transportation are evaluated, the potential for mitigation is assessed, and priority regions for technical and policy support are identified. New climate data provided by the CCAC Scientific Advisory Panel are used to evaluate the impacts of emissions from diesel road transportation and to assess the temperature reduction potential of policies targeting non-CO₂ emissions. The methodology and data sources utilized to develop and evaluate the presented metrics are described in the technical appendix, which also contains projections on pollutant emissions and the temperature impacts of diesel road transportation.
