EXPLOSIVES ENGINEERING IN HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION
LA INGENIERIA EN EXPLOSIVOS EN LA INGENIERIA VIAL
The author reports on research, studies, and experiences related to highway safety and maintenance economics on rock slopes in highway construction, carried out by his company. He explains techniques for splitting and presplitting of rock slopes, theoretically and analytically, and describes two projects where the techniques were applied. This method is now used widely in Europe and the United States. Two new explosive accessories, Tunex and Fanel, have been developed to replace the traditional chain charges and electric detonators, and provide greater operator safety. Caballero describes the development and use of these innovative accessories, and also presents a case history on experimental use on National Route 3 in Tierra del Fuego. (Author)
