This paper describes the design and construction aspects of the conversion of a 30 MDWT tug/barge unit into the ocean capable diesel tanker, Exxon Galveston. The conversion included structurally joining the two vessels, providing a new superstructure with all new hotel facilities, modifications to the main propulsion system, modifications to the cargo system, retrofit of a segregated ballast system, and outfitting the vessel to receive crude oil from an offshore storage vessel.
