FINAL REPORT ON FREIGHT TRANSPORT BETWEEN EASTERN AND WESTERN EUROPE
RAPPORT FINAL SUR LES TRANSPORTS DE MARCHANDISES ENTRE L'EUROPE OCCIDENTALE ET L'EUROPE ORIENTALE
The study covers movement of freight by sea, rail, road, pipelines and waterways in the areas concerned. In the first part, transport demand is examined and different traffic forecasts for the period until the year 2000 are explained. In the second part, which is devoted to transport infrastructures, the study examines whether they are capable of absorbing the expected increase in freight traffic, in the light of present and future projects for improving them. The conclusions suggest that the rate of growth will mean that the capacity of the infrastructures will be stretched to limits and proposes that they should be expanded from the middle of the decade.
