Senior Drivers & Automated Vehicles: Knowledge, Attitudes & Practices
This report summarizes the results of eight focus groups conducted with licensed Canadian drivers over the age of 65 during 2018. These focus groups focused on attitudes towards limited self-driving vehicles (LSDVs). Topics covered in the focus groups included knowledge and familiarity with automated vehicles, perceived benefits, concerns, trust in personal capabilities to handle LSDV technology, acceptance of LSDV technology, and education and training needs. In addition, survey data from an online survey completed by 2,662 licensed Canadian drivers in April 2016 was also analyzed and compared with focus group responses.
