Material Selection Guidance for Asphalt Pavement Design
This report examines sustainable materials for asphalt pavement design including: warm mix asphalt, reclaimed asphalt pavement, recycled asphalt shingles, recycled tire rubber, stone matrix asphalt, cold recycling, and polymer-modified asphalt. It includes a look at material basics and properties, potential benefits, mix design, performance measurements, and National Center for Asphalt Technology (NCAT) test track evaluations. It also discusses the 1993 American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Design Guide method, the AASHTO Mechanistic‐Empirical (M‐E) Pavement Design Guide, and perpetual pavement design procedures.
