Leveraging Social Media: Spreading the Word and Enhancing Community Participation
The proliferation of Web 2.0 technology in the early part of the 21st century has allowed businesses and service providers to reach their customers in new and engaging ways. Social media tools have become a venue for the exchange of information between providers and customers and can be used to foster community partnerships. Many transit providers throughout the country have added social media tools to their list of communication methods. This technical brief will provide specific examples of how transit systems can leverage the social media tools available to stay competitive, meet the service needs of their customer base, and have open dialogue with the community.
