Fuel Consumption and Emissions Testing of a Best-in-Class Tractor-Trailer in the US
The International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) commissioned the Center for Alternative Fuels, Engines, and Emissions (CAFEE) at West Virginia University to conduct track testing and chassis dynamometer testing to determine the aerodynamic drag and fuel consumption of a best-in-class tractor-trailer in the United States. The testing program was designed to allow a direct a comparison of the fuel consumption measurements with those resulting from a similar testing project carried out in Europe by the Graz University of Technology. Following strict test procedures, the fuel consumption of the US best-in-class tractor-trailer was measured in a controlled laboratory environment over the same set of driving cycles and payloads as the European study.
