Asset management strategy for road-related assets (safety infrastructure)
The provision and maintenance of safety infrastructure such as safety barriers and safety fences enhances roadside safety and vehicle movement and reduces the risk of road crashes and their severity. This report provides guidance for the management of these safety infrastructure assets to maximise the level of service at a minimum life-cycle cost, mitigate risks to road users, and to assist in continually improving planning, maintenance and operations. It includes a template for an asset management strategy for safety infrastructure which focuses on achieving a well-defined and broadly accepted level of service, recognising and managing risks to road users and assets, and using whole-of-life costs as its criterion. Performance monitoring, review and feedback processes are also suggested to identify improvements in the planning process.
