Special Crash Investigations Remote Non-Traffic Surveillance Hyperthermia Investigation; Vehicle: 2004 Dodge Ram 1500; Location: Louisiana; Incident Date: June 2016
The interest of this investigation is the heat-stroke death of a 3-year-old female and a 3-year-old male who entered a parked, unoccupied 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 and were unable to exit the vehicle. This incident occurred in a suburban, residential area in a driveway that was located in front of the children’s residence. The Dodge was parked in the driveway of the residence with the windows closed and the doors reportedly locked. The mother and two children were watching television in the living room of the residence and the mother fell asleep. At some point as the mother slept, the two children exited the residence and entered the Dodge. The mother awoke from an approximate two hour sleep and proceeded to search for the children. She found them deceased in the vehicle. It is not known specifically how the children entered the vehicle.
