Implementation Benefits of Sustainable Mobility Solutions in Rural Areas

Nowadays, there is a big domination of personal car usage over other modes of transportation as the main transport mode. The inhabitants in bigger urban areas have the option of using other alternative solutions, primarily public transport. However, this is not the case in rural areas and small towns. Public transport in rural areas is often unavailable or badly organized. Very big area of coverage and low traffic demand generate big costs and low income, so that public transport cannot be profitable for the provider. Poor service of public transport in rural areas is often justified by inaccessible terrain, dispersion of inhabitants and low income. The question is: Is it possible to create an efficient and profitable public transport system in rural area? The goal of this paper is to analyze the implementation benefits of alternative solutions of sustainable mobility in rural areas. The benefits will be shown throughout financial and economic analysis. Other than that, examples of efficient implementation of alternative solutions in the world will be shown. The aim of this paper is to focus on the importance of implementation of pilot projects and their evaluation from the social and economic aspects.
