EVALUATION OF INCIDENT DETECTION ALGORITHMS
Off-Line and On-Line evaluations were conducted. Six algorithms were evaluated using incident and incident-free data collected on Chicago's expressways under various traffic and environmental conditions. Algorithm efficiency was evaluated in terms of Detection Rate, False-Alarm Rate, and Mean-Time-To-Detect. The evaluation included a comparative analysis of algorithm efficiency; effect of lateral detectorization on algorithm performance; hierarchical analysis of threshold effectiveness and the effect of incident severity on algorithm performance.
