Comparison of Fuel Consumption and Emissions for Representative Heavy-Duty Vehicles in Europe
This report presents a comparison of vehicle technology, fuel consumption and pollutant emissions between European Union and United States heavy duty vehicles (HDVs). The program’s goals were: 1. Determination of fuel consumption (FC) and carbon dioxide (CO₂) emission figures from European HDVs for development of baselines for future CO₂ emission limits; 2. Determination of FC and CO₂ levels in selected cycles from the US HDV CO₂ certification to compare European trucks with corresponding US trucks; 3. Comparison of methodology for measuring air drag; 4. Measurement and analysis of emissions of the tested European vehicles; 5. Provision of measurement data allowing for more profound analysis of current European HDV fuel efficiency and emissions abatement technologies. An extensive set of measurements was recorded during the chassis dynamics measurements. This report presents a description of measurement methods and summarizes the results.
