Simulation and Experiment on Engine Performance and BSFC for Two-Stage and Sequential Turbo Diesel
The two-stage and sequential turbocharging strategy was proposed in order to achieve both higher torque at low engine speed, and better fuel consumption at low and high engine speeds. According to results of simulation and engine experiments, the improvement in fuel consumption was obtained at both low and high engine speeds by using this turbocharging strategy. On the other hand, although fuel consumption at low engine speed was further improved by using low-pressure-loop EGR, fuel consumption at high engine speed was deteriorated because of the seriously increased exhaust back pressure.
