Study on Cohesive Clay with High Liquid Limit in Yellow River Flood Area

Through the particle analysis test, liquid plastic limit test, bearing plate test, rapid test method and three-axis of non-consolidation non-drain test on the cohesive clay with high liquid limit in Yellow River flood area, it studied soil material composition, water stability, and resistance to deformation. The result of study shows: the clay has high natural moisture content and possesses the property of expansion and dispersibility. Its remolded soil in low water content has good mechanical properties, while the soil is soften seriously in high water content. The initial moisture content, saturation and compaction of soil material will affect the property of soil mechanics. The soil saturation limit is 90% and the initial moisture content limit is 20%. When it is higher than the limit value, the soil mechanics decreases significantly and the compaction is affected weakly.
