Attitudes to Autonomous Vehicles
An online survey of attitudes towards autonomous vehicles (AV) was conducted from December 2016 to February 2017. Respondents (64%) were recruited from registrations of those interested in TRL's GATEway project, a UK trial of AVs. Additional respondents were recruited primarily via email and social media. Of the 233 respondents, 81% agreed or strongly agreed that, "Driverless cars are a good idea," while 53% agreed or strongly agreed, "I can trust a driverless vehicle." Additional areas explored included likelihood of wanting to be a passenger in a vehicle with semi-autonomous features, and the effect of providing information to participants about AVs prior to survey administration. Appendices include all questionnaire items, demographic information, and additional respondent comments including concerns about AVs.
