Risk of serious motorcycle accidents among ordinary motorcyclists. A nationwide register-based cohort study

Das Risiko von schweren Motorradunfaellen. Eine landesweite bestandsdatenbasierte Kohortenstudie

To assess serious accident risk among ordinary motorcyclists in general a nationwide register-based cohort study including all Swedish motorcycle owners was performed. The study included all motorcycle accidents resulting in injuries in need of hospital care. The findings show that younger age is a strong risk factor for hospital care from motorcycle accidents; the risk varies with the choice of motorcycle type; the risk associated with motorcycle type choice varies with driver age; there is no statistically significant difference in serious motorcycle accident risk between female and male drivers.
