COMPUTERS FOR PRODUCTION CONTROL IN INDUSTRY WITH PARTICULAR REFERENCE TO JOB-SHOP MANUFACTURING

Some applications of the use of a computer in production control at Clarke Chapmans Marine and Engineering Div whose activities include the sale, design and manufacture of a wide spectrum of purpose-built machinery. General principles which can be applied in the Job Shop environment are derived. The system includes global programming ( the overall Management Activity Reporting System ) and programs that select the best work for a given machine. The decision-making rules incorporated in these programs are examined.
