POWER TRANSMISSION EQUIPMENT FOR MEDIUM-SPEED-ENGINED PROPULSION SYSTEMS
The increasing use of medium speed engine geared installations for marine propulsion has led to many developments in the design and manufacture of reverse/reduction and reduction gearing for these units. Some current designs of gears, clutches and couplings are reviewed and the requirements for future propulsion systems are examined. Topics considered are-gears for twin engine installations, hardened spur gears and power distribution, precision and rigidity, and couplings for protection against torsional vibrations.
