Metrics, Models, and Data for Assessment of Resilience of Urban Infrastructure Systems : A Summary of Findings

This document is a summary of findings based on this research as presented in several conferences during the course of the project. The research focused on identifying the basic metrics and models that can be used to develop representations of performance response that can be used to define resilience in urban environments, and to bring together data resources that can be investigated to understand and validate the interactive behavior of our complex transportation infrastructure systems, including the use of underground space. Four papers are included in this report: (1) Vertical Planning of Urban Underground Space Use in China; (2) Sustainability and Resilience of Underground Urban Infrastructure: New Approaches to Metrics and Formalism; (3) A Framework for the Future of Urban Underground Engineering; and (4) New Approaches to Metrics and Methods for Resilience of Underground Urban Infrastructure.
