EXPERIMENTAL SAFETY VEHICLE TRADEOFF AND INTEGRATION SYSTEMS STUDIES. VOLUME I. SECTIONS 1 THROUGH 5

The volume is comprised of five sections. Section 1 is a summary of the 11 major study areas and describes study goals, methods, and principal results. Section 2, Interior Studies, describes air bag systems developed for front seat occupants, and inflatable seat belts developed for rear seat occupants. Section 3, Front Energy Management, describes velocity-sensitive front end systems, bumpers, and aggressivity studies. Section 4, Body Structure Studies, describes structural features to provide crashworthiness in the principal collision modes. Section 5, Vehicle Simulator, describes the development and testing of a vehicle which simulates various front end crush characteristics.
