Developing a Safety Culture

The number of recreational vessels is twice the size and the number of boating casualties is more than half since the creation of the National Recreational Boating Safety Program in 1971. While this trend is impressive, accidents continue to happen, property is damaged, people injured, and lives are lost. More can be done. If there is going to be a significant impact on boating safety, everyone involved in recreational boating, from those who build boats, to those who train people on how to use boats, need to be part of the solution. With greater and more frequent experiences of safety linked to enjoyment, more and more people will enjoy recreational boating longer and this will create more demand for products and services.
