COMPUTER ALGORITHMS FOR SHIP DESIGN PURPOSES

Part of any process of making a program individual, or writing a new one, is to maintain a library of relevant algorithms which may be drawn upon either as ideas or as components. Such algorithms can be put forward as flow diagrams or as programs. A program seems more useful but it requires a decision to be taken on the program language and the input and output system. A program is given which can be used to generate preliminary designs for oil tankers from about 15,000 dwt to 50,000 dwt and is set to give answers within 2 percent of the required deadweight. The input information is deadweight required and speed. The output information is the input repeated, followed by length between perpendiculars, beam, draught and depth molded, block coefficient, displacement, lightweight and bhp.
