PLANNING OF SECTION BUILDING IN THE SHIPYARD: A COMPUTER AIDED APPROACH TO IMPROVED UTILIZATION OF RESOURCES AND FACILITIES

The capacity and progress of ship hull production can generally be classified into two main divisions: (1) planning of prefabrication and building of sections (assemblies, blocks) in the plate shop and on the welding areas: (2) planning of hull erection in the dock or on the ship. PLASIS is a computerized program designed to help with planning of prefabrication and building of sections. The system's success lies mainly in that it easily provides the outcome of alternative sets of decisions, but leaves the actual deciding to knowledgeable planners and managers.
