Laboratory Experimental Research on the Mechanical Properties of Waterproofing Adhesive Layer (WAL) for Steel Bridge Deck
Waterproofing adhesive layer (WAL) has been used as an interlayer between asphalt mixture overlay and steel deck of bridges for the purpose of waterproofing and interface adhesion. Since the significant influence of its mechanical properties on the service life of bridge, the mechanical properties of two kinds of domestic WAL were investigated in this study, including tensile strength of waterproofing membrane (WM), low-temperature pliability of WM and bonding strength between different layers. Short-term thermal ageing of WM was conducted and the tensile strength retention rate was used to evaluate its anti-thermal ageing property. Laboratory test of pull-off test and skew-shear test were designed to determine the interface adhesion strength. Besides, the reason of performance differences between the two WALs was discussed in terms of the testing results.
