Influence of Elasticity’s Change on the Actions and Deflection of Slab Track: Measurements On Site and Theoretical Analysis

A semi-analytic model of a railway ballasted and slab (ballastless) track has been developed and it is presented with a theoretical analysis, in a High-Speed line (V250km/h or 155.38m/h). In this approach this model is compared to the existing theoretical semi-analytic methods, as cited in the German, French, American literature. This model (Giannakos [2004]) is valid for speeds in the domain under the critical speed of wave propagation along the rail and it has already been verified for the case of ballasted track, in the case of extended cracking of the sleepers (over 60% of their total number on track), as it has been presented in several Journals, since 2010. The Rheda-Sengeberg slab track type has been in operation, in the Athens–Thessaloniki axis, since 2004 (22.5t/axle, 250km/h); for this slab track type measurements in the German railway network have been published, for Ioarv 108 fastening with pad Zwp55 pad and pad’s static stiffness coefficient ρpad=35kN/mm (axle-loads 20t/axle in the case of ICE-1 train-sets). In this investigation, the Giannakos (2004) method is applied in the slab track section too. A sensitivity analysis is performed for different values/qualities of the stiffness coefficient of the subgrade. The measured deflections, on a Rheda Sengeberg slab track section in Germany, are compared to the results of the theoretical method [Giannakos (2004)]. The probability of occurrence which gives results almost coinciding with the measurements is determined and thus the method is verified. This model is applied in the case of a modern Rheda-type slab track with fastening W15, pad Zw104 and pad’s static stiffness coefficient ρpad=22.5±2.5kN/mm, much more resilient than the Zwp55 pad. The influence of higher elasticity is analysed and conclusions are been drawn.
