A Multiobjective Routing Model for Maritime Oil Transportation in the Aegean Sea
Transportation of hazardous material has received increasing attention in the literature with research efforts mostly focusing on road transport. Maritime transportation of hazardous materials is, however, an integral part of the supply chain of various materials considered dangerous for the public, such as crude oil, chemicals etc. This paper presents a model for designing a hazmat maritime network, which satisfies oil demand for the islands of the Aegean Sea, where electric power is generated by oil-based thermal units. The problem is modeled as a multi-objective capacitated vehicle routing problem where risk considerations pertaining to the high touristic activity of the archipelago are taken into account. An alternating objective genetic algorithm is applied to handle the bi-objective nature of the problem.
