STATE-OF-THE ART REPORT ON MARINE SANITATION DEVICES
The report describes the problem of disposal of wastewater from recreational, commercial, and military vessels, with particular emphasis on recreational vessels. Contained in the report is a summary of marine sanitation devices (MSD) which are commercially available, and a breakdown of MSD research, development, test and evaluation (RDT and E) programs being funded by the federal government and private agencies. An analysis is made of vessel limitations and constraints, and the suitability of the various MSD systems is compared to the vessel requirements. The conclusions note the major problems of wastewater treatment both onboard recreational, commercial, and military vessels and at dockside and the technical and economic factors that must be considered in the selection of a marine sanitation device.
