CONTAINERIZATION IN IRELAND

AUSWEITUNG DES CONTAINERVERKEHRS IN IRLAND

Economic aspects have forced Ireland to implement the use of containers for import and export operations. In 1968 about 960,000-t of goods were handled in containers, equalling roughly 130,000 container units. This paper describes the installations for handling containers, for roll-on/roll-off traffic and for the transshipment of loads from ships into rail and road vehicles. Special reference is made to technical equipment such as cranes, container bridges, etc.
