DEVELOPMENT OF A DISCRETE ADDRESS BEACON SYSTEM
The report includes: a discussion of recent Discrete Address Beacon Systems downlink preamble and modulation studies; a review of link performance studies to assess the effects of various types of signal fades, the merits of transmitted power programming, and diversity, and to establish link performance criteria. A brief description of operational problems peculiar to the DABS/Military interface is also included. Other items detail progress made in coverage studies and in the formulation of a sensor deployment plan. Sensor design is discussed under headings of antenna studies, reply processing, interrogation management, tracker studies, and DABS use of radar data. A description of the development status of the DABS experimental facility and a review of initial direction-finding experiments performed conclude the report. (Modified author abstract)
