INFRARED INSPECTION OF ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT

Infrared temperature measurements of electrical equipment at the New York Air Route Traffic Control Center were made. These data were analyzed statistically and conclusions were drawn regarding the 'normal' operating temperature range for these equipments. Temperatures were calculated which indicate the highest 'normal' operating temperature and the temperature at which corrective action should be initiated. Laboratory tests were performed at NASC on various equipments which were operated above the 'normal' temperature range to confirm predictions. A survey of infrared instruments is also included, and a handbook on the use of infrared technique for preventative maintenance of electrical equipment is provided. (Author)
