Evaluating distracted driving behaviors in parents of children in suburban and rural areas of Alabama

This study examines distracted driving behaviors (talking on cell phones and texting) of parents transporting children under 18 years old. Using a comparison study of 150 participants in Alabama, the authors seek to determine whether there is a difference in driving behaviors between suburban and rural ares of a southern state. Their findings reveal a a high instance of cell phone use while driving among parents across Alabama, with a slightly higher percentage reported in suburban areas than in rural areas. The authors suggest that research is needed to determine how to implement effective injury prevention interventions in areas where distracted driving is particularly common.
