ACL S G2 SHIPS ENTER SERVICE
Six second-generation twin-screw turbine-powered combined vehicle deck and cellular container ships for Atlantic Container Line have nearly 50 percent increase in container capacity and some 90 percent increase in maximum installed machinery output (now 38,500 shp maximum). Lashing the deck-mount containers is performed easily from powered gantries with extendable columns and arms. A stowage plan sketch is shown and details are given for the cargo facilities, hatches and doors, navigation and control equipment, and stabilizers. Principal particulars of the first and second generation ships are compared.
